A resident raised the issue of grass cutting near the post box and alongside The Court. He informed the council that the grass is growing nearly 10 inches onto the footpath. This was reported to Highways, who came out to assess the issue. The pavement measured over 1 metre unobstructed so there will be no actions take by Highways.
4. Minutes of the Annual Meeting held on 4th March 2021
Agreed and signed by Cllr. Hunter.
5. Allerston Water
5.1 Annual Water Account.
Cllr. Read was approached by a member of the public prior to the meeting to ask if the water rate for the residents could be halved – from £110 a year to £55 a year – due to the rise in other household bills. The Cllrs. unanimously rejected this ask because the running costs for the water supply also rising – electricity to the pump house will cost in the region of £2000 next year and a new U.V. pump will be needed by the end of this year which costs £660. It was also highlighted that there needs to be sufficient funds in the water account in case of emergencies; for example, stop taps alone cost £1300. If we do not have sufficient reserves, Ryedale District Council could switch Allerston water supply over to Yorkshire Water, which would mean more expensive bills and a lower quality of water. Cllr. Briston reiterated that if the water bill is paid early, then a £10 discount also applies.
The water consumption was higher than average by around 30,000 litres. There is no obvious cause for this given the time of year. Will start to monitor fortnightly in case of a potential leak.
5.2 To confirm water rate of 2021/2022
It was confirmed that the water rate for 2021/2022 residents is £110 with a £10 discount if paid before 31st May making the charge £100.
The meeting finished at 7:40pm
